Irrigation Rehabilitation Program Projects Overview

The following is a current list of all projects included in the Bow River Irrigation District approved under this program. Funding for I.R.P. Projects is 75% Government of Alberta grant with the District covering the remaining 25%

BK-2-2 Pipeline (Vauxhall Block)

 
Description

This project consists of a small canal that feeds a pressurised pipeline off the eastern side of Lost Lake. It supplies water to 9 parcels.

 
Schedule

The BK-2-2 pipeline was completed in the spring of 2026 and is currently operational.

 
Cost Estimate

Final cost was about $1,946,000.

BK-2 Pipeline - Phase 1 (Vauxhall Block)

 
Description

This project is a large pipeline that runs north of the Main Canal. Phase 1 of the project is the lower end of the pipeline. Phase 2 will be completed under the AIM program.

 
Schedule

The BK-2 pipeline (phases 1 & 2) were completed in the spring of 2026 and is currently operational. BK-1, BK-2 and BK-3 pipelines will replace the Lateral B Canal and several smaller laterals. Operational efficencies will be significant.

 
Cost Estimate

Final cost: Phase 1 was about $2,450,000. Phase 2 was about $9,400,000.

BK-1 Pipeline - Phase 1 (Vauxhall Block)

 
Description

BK-1 is a large pipeline that runs north of the Main Canal. It is the final pipeline in the BK group. Phase 1 of the project is the lower end of the pipeline.

 
Schedule

Phase 1 of the BK-1 pipeline is scheduled to be constructed in the 2026/2027 construction season.

 
Cost Estimate

Cost estimate for Phase 1 is about $4,491,000.

BK-1 Pipeline - Phase 2 (Vauxhall Block)

 
Description

This is the 2nd Phase of the BK-1 pipeline.

 
Schedule

Phase 2 of the BK-1 pipeline is scheduled to be constructed in the 2027/2028 construction season.

 
Cost Estimate

Cost estimate for Phase 2 is about $12,396,000.

Laterals C-1 and Y-3 Rehabilitation (Hays Block)

 
Description

The Y-3 canal will be replaced by additions to existing pipelines. It and a portion of the C-1 canal will be backfilled. The remainder of the C-1 canal will remain as a drain.

 
Schedule

This project was completed in the spring of 2026.

 
Cost Estimate

Cost was about $240,000.

Lomond Lateral Gate Replacements (West Block)

 
Description

Several control gates along the Lomond Lateral need to be replaced. They leak and/or are hard to control.

This project was completed in the spring of 2026.

 
Cost Estimate

Cost was about $634,000.
